Setlist
Terms of use
Effective 9 October 2026
Setlist is a strength-training log for iPhone, published by Benjamin Gadbaw. These terms are between you and me. By installing Setlist, continuing past its welcome screen, or using it, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Setlist.
The short version: Setlist is a log with some arithmetic on top. It is not a coach, a clinician or a medical device. What it shows you is a fixed rule applied to the sets you logged, read against a method you chose, and it can be wrong. You and your trainer or clinician decide what to lift, how, and whether you are fit to train today. Lifting weights can injure you, and by training with Setlist you accept that risk.
Apple’s licence
Setlist is licensed to you under Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement. These terms add to it. If the two conflict, Apple’s agreement governs the licence of the software itself and these terms govern everything else.
Not medical advice
Setlist is a training log, not a medical device and not a source of medical, health or nutrition advice. Nothing in it creates a clinician–patient, trainer–client or other professional relationship between you and me. Talk to a doctor before you start or change a training programme, and before you train at all if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, an injury, are pregnant or recently gave birth, are recovering from illness or surgery, or take medication that affects exertion.
What Setlist’s readings are
Setlist shows where a lift stands against the method you follow and what that method does next: a load, a rep range, a lighter day, a warm-up ramp, a core set it offers, and a workout or a program built from your answers. Every one of these is a fixed arithmetic rule applied to the sets you logged and the answers you gave. The rules are described in the app under “How Setlist reads your log”. They do not know your technique, your health, your form on the day, the state of your equipment, or how you feel. They assume the numbers you logged are true. They can be wrong, and a reading is not an instruction. Setlist does not coach or prescribe; you and your trainer or clinician decide what to lift.
Your responsibilities and the risk you accept
Strength training carries a risk of injury, including serious injury. You accept that risk when you train, whether or not you act on a reading from Setlist. You agree to:
- use technique you have learned properly, and spotters, safety bars and collars where a lift calls for them;
- choose loads you can control, warm up, and stop a lift that hurts;
- see a clinician about pain that stays, and not train through an injury on the strength of a reading;
- log what you actually did, since every reading is built from it;
- check your own equipment and training space; Setlist knows nothing about either.
Setlist is not directed at children. If you are under 18, you use Setlist with a parent or guardian’s permission and supervision, and that parent or guardian accepts these terms on your behalf.
Heart rate, sleep and other Apple Health data
With your permission, Setlist reads heart rate, sleep, heart-rate variability, resting heart rate, body weight and body fat from Apple Health, where your watch, strap, ring or scale wrote them. Setlist shows those readings as written and does not check them. A heart-rate figure beside an exercise is the device’s reading over the minutes you were on that exercise, nothing more. None of it is medical monitoring, and none of it should be used to decide whether you are well. The estimated maximum heart rate is a population formula from your age with an error of several beats, and the app says so where it shows it.
Accounts and published content
An account is optional. If you create one, you are responsible for what happens under it and for keeping access to the Apple Account or email address it is tied to. If you publish a routine, program or collection, it becomes public under a handle you choose, with any credits it carries. You keep ownership of what you publish and give me a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it through Setlist for as long as it is published. Do not publish anything you do not have the right to publish, anything unlawful, or anything that impersonates another person or trainer. I may remove or hide a published item or handle, or close an account, that breaks these terms or the law, and anyone can report an item or handle to me from inside the app. Anything you share with another person in Setlist, a routine, a note, a name, must be your own and must not abuse anyone; there is no tolerance for abusive content or abusive people, reports are acted on, and I may remove content or stop an account.
Trainers
Sharing your training with a trainer is your choice. A trainer who uses Setlist is not my employee or agent, and I am not responsible for a trainer’s programming, advice or conduct. A trainer is responsible for their own clients and for their own professional obligations.
Pro and subscriptions
Setlist Pro and Setlist for Trainers are sold through the App Store and billed by Apple to your Apple Account. A subscription renews until you cancel it in your Apple Account settings at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; a free trial converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends. Refunds are handled by Apple under its terms. Prices may change, with notice through the App Store before any change takes effect for you. What is included in Pro, and what is free, may change over time.
Your data and my work
Your workouts, routines, body measurements and everything else you put into Setlist are yours, and the privacy policy says what happens to them. The app, its design, its code, and the wording of its exercise library and training guide are mine and are protected by copyright. You may not copy the library or guide wording into another product, and you may not reverse engineer, scrape or interfere with Setlist or its server beyond what the law expressly allows.
No warranty
Setlist is provided as it is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. I do not promise that Setlist will be uninterrupted, error-free or that its suggestions will suit you or produce any result. Some places do not allow some of these exclusions, in which case they apply as far as the law allows.
Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, I am not liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, for any injury or loss arising from your training, or for any loss of data, profits or goodwill, arising out of or related to Setlist or these terms, whether in contract, tort or otherwise, even if told it was possible. To the same extent, my total liability to you for all claims together is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Setlist in the twelve months before the claim and fifty US dollars. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits a liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by my negligence where the law so provides.
Your indemnity
You will defend and hold me harmless from claims, losses and reasonable costs arising from anything you publish through Setlist or from your breach of these terms.
Ending
You can stop using Setlist at any time by deleting the app, and delete your account from inside it. I may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or the law, or withdraw Setlist from sale. The sections on your data and my work, no warranty, limit of liability, your indemnity and disputes survive.
Changes
If these terms change, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new effective date, and material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes. Using Setlist after a change means you accept it. The version in force is the one published here.
Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules, and any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts in San Francisco County, California, where you consent to jurisdiction. Before that, write to me through the support form; most things are fixed that way. If a part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stands.
Contact
Through the form on the Setlist support page.
Setlist is a training log, not a medical device and not a source of medical advice. Its suggestions are fixed arithmetic rules applied to sets you logged yourself. Talk to a doctor before starting or changing a training programme.
